Shaw D. Kinsley Lecture Series Presents: The Saint Patrick's Battalion & the Mexican American War

Celebrate Saint Patrick's day by joining us for this presentation on a fascinating Irish connection to the wider borderlands region and Mexico. Tubac based Borderlandia director and public historian Alex La Pierre will cover the little known story of Irish immigrant soldiers who switched sides and fought for Mexico during the Mexican-American War which took place in between 1846-48. 

We'll explore some of the reasons and circumstances this defection occured as well as look at the special foreign military unit's war service and eventual fate. Finally, the seminar will highlight how the service of the Saint Patrick's Battalion is honored to this day in Mexico.
